Why Mirzapur is so Special?

You might have heard the title of the series Mirzapur many times since its release—especially from people in the Telugu states and across South India.
However, the plot and setting of the story are entirely based in Uttar Pradesh, revolving around drugs, guns, murders, and lawlessness.
This action-packed crime thriller follows two brothers, Guddu and Bablu, played by Ali Fazal and Vikrant Massey. They get entangled in the world of crime under the influence of Munna (played by Divyendu Sharma), the son of mafia king Akhandanand Tripathi (played by Pankaj Tripathi), one of the most celebrated actors on OTT platforms.
Produced by Excel Entertainment, Mirzapur currently has two seasons, with the third one yet to release. While it’s not a true story, it’s inspired by real-life incidents and mafia culture in the city of Mirzapur.
The creators, Karan Anshuman and Puneet Krishna, crafted a gripping narrative filled with twists and unforgettable performances—making it a must-watch.
Undoubtedly, it’s the accent and dubbing that played a major role. Initially released in Hindi, it was later dubbed into Telugu, Tamil, and other regional languages.
Why do I emphasize the language?
The gangster drama captures the audience's attention right from the beginning. The makers did a fantastic job of retaining the flavor of the original Hindi accent—even in the dubbed versions.
Munna's role, played by Divyendu, became one of the most iconic characters, even though the role had dark and aggressive shades. The strife between the Tripathis and the Shuklas over the control of Mirzapur highlights the intense rivalry between these fictional mafia families.
The first time I watched the series on Amazon—especially the Telugu dubbed version—it felt so real, like I was watching something that had actually happened.
Honestly, I was thrilled by the use of bold cuss words in Telugu. I binge-watched the first season and eagerly waited for the second one to arrive in Telugu.
Since then, Mirzapur has become a viral sensation, with countless memes and trolls on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and X.
Available now on Amazon Prime Video.
